Hosted by group concerned about lack of ‘anti-fascist organizing’<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

A leftist group called \u201cArmed Queers Salt Lake City\u201d plans to speak on Wednesday night at the University of Utah.<\/p>\n

The group describes itself<\/a> as a \u201csocialist LGBTQ organization dedicated to the self-defense, and self-determination, of people\u2019s movements.\u201d<\/p>\n

The promotion ad for the event replaces the \u201cq\u201d in \u201cqueer\u201d with the Communist hammer and sickle and says the group will \u201cagitate, educate [and] organize.\u201d<\/p>\n

Leftist Hispanic student group Mecha is hosting the event. The group started to fill a void in \u201canti-fascist organizing\u201d and to combat the campus Young Americans for Freedom chapter.<\/p>\n

\u201cI got involved in Mecha because I was tired of not seeing any leftist organizing or anti-fascist organizing on campus,\u201d education chair Gabriel Merida told the student newspaper.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe club puts a large focus on action in order to bring about genuine change, especially following the presence of the Young America\u2019s Foundation on campus,\u201d The Daily Utah Chronicle<\/em> reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe utilize things like our book club and social media events to discuss revolutionary ideas and empower students and community members to join us in the revolutionary struggle,\u201d Merida said.<\/p>\n

Young America\u2019s Foundation, which originally reported<\/a> on the event, noted the poster promotes dangerous gun ownership.<\/p>\n

Young America\u2019s Foundation unequivocally supports the Second Amendment and the responsibility its privileges demand. In the case of the \u201cArmed Queers,\u201d however, the responsibility factor appears to be severely lacking.<\/p>\n

The flyer used to promote the militia\u2019s event, depicting an individual holding a firearm with her finger on the trigger, is in direct violation of one of the universal rules of gun safety: \u201cKeep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot.\u201d This blatant disregard for a fundamental principle of firearm safety raises concerns about the group\u2019s approach to responsible gun ownership.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201cFurthermore, it is concerning that the stated goal of the LGBTQ+ militia is to \u201cagitate\u201d individuals who disagree with the Left\u2019s radical agenda,\u201d Baker wrote. \u201cPerhaps, these leftists should reconsider the ideology they claim to stand for. Under the destructive system of socialism they so desperately desire, they certainly would lose the right to own firearms.\u201d<\/p>\n
