Clemson University has removed tampon and pad dispensers from men’s bathrooms on campus after a Republican state lawmaker voiced concerns.<\/p>\n
Rep. April Cromer used her sway to prompt Clemson leaders to remove the dispensers after the College Republicans posted a picture of one of the dispensers on social media, mocking it.<\/p>\n
“A few days ago, our club made it known that tampon and pad dispensers were in several of the MEN’S restrooms in Cooper Library (@clemsonlibrary). However, with the help of Rep. @CromerForHouse, these dispensers were removed from the walls of the bathrooms. It is a total embarrassment that these were there in the first place,” the Clemson College Republicans posted<\/a> on X on Sept. 17. “Men cannot be women. Women cannot be men. Period. Reject delusion. Embrace sanity.”<\/p>\n According<\/a> to a Sept. 29 article in Inside Higher Ed<\/em>, “Less than a year after Clemson University first installed free period-product dispensers in all the restrooms\u2014men\u2019s, women\u2019s and gender-neutral family facilities\u2014in the R. M. Cooper Library, the institution has quietly removed them from the men\u2019s restrooms.”<\/p>\n “…Trevor Tiedeman, the chairman of the College Republicans, told Inside Higher Ed<\/em> that April Cromer, a Republican state legislator, had seen the post and met with the university\u2019s president to demand they be removed. Tiedeman said the holes left by the removal have since been refilled and painted over.”<\/p>\n According to a post<\/a> on X by Cromer, Clemson’s president “was just as shocked as I was that these dispensers were in the men\u2019s restroom … [and] had these unauthorized dispensers removed ASAP!”<\/p>\n But Inside Higher Ed<\/em> noted the library “announced the initiative on its website last November in a now-removed post that said the dispensers were being made permanent after a pilot program that received ‘overwhelmingly positive’ feedback.”<\/p>\n A few days ago, our club made it known that tampon and pad dispensers were in several of the MEN'S restrooms in Cooper Library (@clemsonlibrary<\/a>).
