Calls Berlin Wall display ‘childish’ and ‘stupid’<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

A Michigan Technological University professor recently ranted about a mock Berlin Wall display set up by the campus Young Americans for Freedom chapter.<\/p>\n

YAF set up the display last week to commemorate the 34th anniversary of the fall of the wall. A leftist student spraypainted and tore down the display, as recently reported<\/a> by\u00a0The College Fix<\/em>. The mock wall drew a similarly strong reaction from Professor Carl Blair.<\/p>\n

“For those of you who weren\u2019t aware of it [the wall], good. For those of you who were aware of it, it was childish, stupid, homophobic, dumb, racist twits. That\u2019s the polite version,\u201d Professor Blair said.<\/p>\n

“We’re going to try to minimize, the vice president of student affairs and the dean of students have their own plans in part, we in the [faculty] senate are going to minimize our response, because there are, quite bluntly, certain faculty members who are hoping…the students will be censored for this,” Blair said.<\/p>\n

He teaches history and anthropology at the public university in Michigan and is on the faculty senate.<\/p>\n

He said some faculty want this because then the students can say “Oh we’re victims, you’re restricting our, you know, freedom of speech, we should have, we have a Constitutional right to be insulting, violent and threatening. How dare you restrict our speech?” Blair said.<\/p>\n

“Strictly speaking, they’re right. They didn’t target a single student, just groups. It was wrong, it was tacky, it’s not illegal, what they did,” he said.<\/p>\n
