{"id":139477,"date":"2023-12-24T18:03:22","date_gmt":"2023-12-24T23:03:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thecollegefix.com\/?p=139477"},"modified":"2023-12-24T18:03:22","modified_gmt":"2023-12-24T23:03:22","slug":"new-study-proves-reality-biological-sex-is-a-huge-factor-in-sports-performance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thecollegefix.com\/new-study-proves-reality-biological-sex-is-a-huge-factor-in-sports-performance\/","title":{"rendered":"New study proves reality: Biological sex is a huge factor in sports performance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>What would we do without studies?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Despite a growing trend of downplaying biology&#8217;s significance in athletic performance, a recent study &#8212; refreshingly &#8212; shows what should be obvious: Biological men are stronger and faster than biological women.<\/p>\n<p>The study &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/bmjopensem.bmj.com\/content\/9\/4\/e001662\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Performance of non-binary athletes in mass-participation running events<\/a>&#8221; by two U.K. university scholars and an independent researcher found that biological males who identify as &#8220;non-binary&#8221; outperformed biological females who identify as same.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepublica.com\/new-study-reveals-that-biological-sex-matters-more-than-gender-identity-in-sports\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>The Publica<\/em><\/a> reports the researchers examined results from almost two dozen races in the New York Road Runners &#8220;non-binary&#8221; category, in which both biological males and females can compete.<\/p>\n<p>Their conclusion: &#8220;There was zero evidence&#8221; to support the theory that runners&#8217; gender identification as &#8220;non-binary&#8221; shrinks the biological sex athletic performance gap.<\/p>\n<p>Lead researcher John Armstrong of King&#8217;s College London said that as an &#8220;objectively measurable binary variable, sex has considerable explanatory advantages over gender identity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added there is a &#8220;lack of empirical evidence supporting gender-identity theory.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>MORE:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecollegefix.com\/extra-lessons-in-losing-female-track-athletes-sue-connecticut-for-letting-males-compete\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u2018Extra lessons in losing\u2019: Female track athletes sue Connecticut for letting males compete<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur results illustrate that if we want to understand the needs of gender non-conforming individuals, it is vital to control for biological sex as it is likely to play a significant role in any analysis,&#8221; Armstrong <em>(pictured) <\/em>said. &#8220;Both sex and gender identity should therefore both be considered useful explanatory variables in data collection.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thecollegefix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/JohnArmstrong.GBNews.YouTube72-370x242.jpg\" width=\"309\" height=\"202\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<em>Publica<\/em>\u00a0notes how a &#8220;non-binary&#8221; biological male won a New York Road Runners race in the &#8220;non-binary&#8221; category earlier this month &#8212; and won a $500 prize, the same as the winner in every other category.<\/p>\n<p>Need it be mentioned that this &#8220;non-binary&#8221; winner&#8217;s time was a full ten minutes slower than the top men&#8217;s finisher &#8230; and four minutes slower than the women&#8217;s category winner?<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, Armstrong <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecollegefix.com\/kings-college-london-rejects-research-on-trans-athletes-for-calling-men-males\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">got into a bit of hot water<\/a> with the King&#8217;s College London Research Ethics office for using the term &#8220;males&#8221; for gender-dysphoric men in a survey.
